Probably not a lot of folks on here know about my favorite relative, my crazy cowboy uncle vic. anyhow, he's the person responsible for our stallion Chance's existence on this planet.
coincidentally, he also suffers from the same arrhythmia as amber, and has really been in poor health lately, and i've been worrying about him. we talk almost daily about horses and life in general, and he's probably the only person on earth that i feel "gets" me.
so on monday, i was terrified to get a phone call from his friend (he has folks who rent space on his lot in arizona from time to time, and i save their numbers in my cell "just in case"). i had no idea he'd gone out of town, and i thought the worst. my heart absolutely sank as i checked my voicemail (these people NEVER call with good news - last time it was because my uncle was in ICU... he wound up with sepsis-MRSA-and a valve repair... and 6 weeks in the VA)....
more back story... my uncle has a mare we call Carolina ("Sugar" to the kids). She's a big, well-bred, purebred polish arabian mare. She is used as a hippotherapy horse (my uncle assists with the upkeep of therapy program horses, a way to stay "in touch" with his daughter, my 5 year old cousin who had down's and whom we lost to leukemia about 12 years ago). anyway, when he inherited Chance's daddy, he tried and tried and TRIED to get that mare covered and bred. She just would not take. WOULD not take. Vet's visits, exams, to no avail - she simply would not take. We finally gave up, assumed she was barren, and moved on.
which brings us to last fall.... we lost chance's daddy in october. he was 32 y/o, feeble, blind (in other words, a well-loved but very geriatric horse), and known to no longer be viable. chance and fad were both "herd-kept" with carolina and an andalusian gelding. chance came to alabama in february...
...but he left behind a sweet surprise, who was born Monday - while my uncle was out of town! the lady had no one else to call and knew i would want to know about this new development (DUH!).
we have not named her (yet), but my uncle was nearly in tears over this little baby once he saw her. the pics are not very good (gotten by a friend of ours out in AZ) but he's a very proud papa and just swears she's "just the most perfect baby i've ever seen". (i cannot WAIT to get out west to see her!!). dark bay with a star and one little stocking.
i know it's soo late in the season to have a baby, but i couldn't be more excited about her.
